Slush Mint Cake®

Slush Mint Cake is a new USA-inspired hybrid cross to savour. The bud quality is the real reason that this strain is so highly praised. She is truly a beautiful cannabis seed to grow and the terpene-rich buds are literally bursting with trichomes. Because the flowers grow so compactly, she is easy to manicure. The dried cannabis buds have exceptional bag appeal that would not look out of place at a cannabis cup!

In terms of growth pattern, she most resembles a hybrid with a reasonable dose of Indica genes. This is most evident during the cannabis flowering phase, where you will clearly recognise her Indica background by the compactness of the buds. During the vegetative growth phase and the beginning of bloom, you will see that Slush Mint Cake can develop large leaves. These leaves usually have slightly longer stems than normal. This is a typical characteristic of this strain.

Slush Mint Cake also has a somewhat stretched growth pattern. So using LST (Low Stress Training) or HST (High Stress Training) growing techniques is recommended to keep this lady under control. It is best to grow her with the SCROG method (screen of green) and support her with nets.

During the late flowering phase, the blooms become top-heavy and can sometimes collapse under their own weight. Most plants will continue to stretch for about 2 to 3 weeks following switching the light to a 12/12 cannabis light cycle in an indoor grow.

Outdoors she will also continue to stretch for a relatively longer period at the start of the flowering phase. This makes for large XL plants that will yield an average of between 0.5-1kg (1-2lbs) of dry buds. Especially when grown in a sunny and dry climate. The average flowering time is between 8 and 9 weeks.

The flowers of this strain are bright white and very sticky! If you look at the buds with a microscope you can imagine yourself in a winter wonderland! In general Slush Mint Cake has an average-to-large internode distance. This makes the buds grow more as individuals rather than merging together. The main blooms can become very full and thick, and despite their slightly smaller size, they can weigh quite a bit.

Slush Mint Cake is a strain that excels in a SCROG cultivation. If you grow her in the natural way, it is recommended to support the buds with yo-yos or rope. A support net can also provide a solution. In general Slush Mint Cake can be thought of as a good yielder with buds of the finest quality.

Slush Mint Cake has an average flowering time of around 8-9 weeks. However, you can sometimes see plants that need a week longer to fully ripen, especially during an outdoor grow or a less-than-optimal indoor grow. In these cases, bloom time is closer to 9-10 weeks. So long as your indoor climate is well-controlled and the cultivation goes smoothly, most phenotypes will need between 8-9 weeks to be ready for harvest.

She can withstand colder temperatures (16-22ºC, 60-70F) quite well, but this can delay the flowering time a little. For the best results, grow her in an optimised climate of around 20-25ºC /68-77F. Outdoors, it is recommended to grow Slush Mint Cake only in dry, sunnier and warmer climates. She can easily tolerate outdoor temperatures of 30-35ºC / 86-95F.

However, she is totally unsuitable for free, open ground cultivation in the colder and wetter northern/southern latitudes. Due to the compactness and high density of the buds, the chance of bud rot and mould is relatively high.

In these climates, she can be grown outdoors in pots or in a greenhouse with good ventilation. Outdoor growing in borderline climates using containers requires a lot of extra attention during bloom. This is because it will be necessary to repeatedly move plants indoors/under-cover during periods of bad weather.

When grown in a sunny and warm climate, she can grow into very large proportions with true XXL yields. And even outdoors/in a greenhouse, the quality of the buds is so high that they are hardly distinguishable from indoor-grown!

Slush Mint Cake has a high XL yield in a relatively short flowering time. The buds can become quite full and hard but are usually average in size. However, these buds have a very high density and because they become so compact they carry quite a bit of weight. The flowers usually have an average-to-large internode distance and therefore never grow completely closed. They grow more like individual buds on the stem.

In an indoor grow, Slush Mint Cake can provide large harvests. A yield of around 500g/m² (15oz per square yard) is usually certainly achievable. In the hands of an expert, even more is possible and with the help of the right growing method (SCROG) you can even reach around 600-650g/m² (18-19oz per square yard).

Outdoors, plants grown in a warm and sunny climate will yield around 1kg/2lbs per plant, especially when they have been properly pre-grown indoors before the outdoor season has started. Outdoors, it is best to SCROG her and/or provide her with support nets. Because the buds become very heavy and compact and can bend at the end!

Slush Mint Cake really has a very pungent and intense terpene profile! This American Indica dominant hybrid has a powerful sweet and sour, gassy and fruity aroma with overlying notes of candy and creamy ice-cream.

Actually, all phenotypes smell incredibly strong and powerful, some have that real 'stinky & gassy' intense Cali scent profile, comparable to the intensity of a GMO-type strain for example. There are phenotypes that are a bit more reminiscent of the Ice Cream Cake genetics, here too you can easily recognise the pungent Cali-weed scent. In general, this aroma seems a bit fruitier and more like forest fruits mixed with cream. Very tasty both in the vape and in a joint!

The most dominant terpenes in this strain are limonene, linalool, caryophyllene, myrcene, humulene and pinene. In addition, there is also a relatively large amount of fenchol and terpinolene in the buds. There are also trace amounts of camphene, ocimene, farsene, nerolidol, menthone. And in half of the plants small amounts of geraniol can be found. All plants get beautiful hard, compact flowers that glisten with trichomes!

Slush Mint Cake is an Indica dominant hybrid cannabis seed variety that grows and blooms with great vigour. Her branches grow quickly with the characteristic long leaf stems. These longer stems let the leaves stand further outwards, away from the plant.

In a compact indoor grow you will want to remove some leaves occasionally, especially in a scrog. But in an outdoor grow this extra space ensures better ventilation and light penetration. She generally has a somewhat stretchy and 'leggy' growth profile. This should be considered when considering the layout of the grow space and the final height of the plants.

However, this stretching makes her absolutely ideal for growing with the SCROG method. With this you can also achieve the highest yields. If you can SCROG well and have managed to fill the SCROG net, you will be surprised at her harvest potential.

She is not the easiest or most predictable plant to grow. This makes her a little less suitable for beginners but more for experienced expert growers who know how to slow down and manipulate plants when desired. During the late flowering phase, always provide a dry climate of around 40-50% RH with sufficient ventilation. This is necessary since the buds can become genuinely rock-hard.

We also recommend not to squeeze the buds too often during the flowering phase, because once you have smelled that delicious scent profile you will not be able to keep your hands (and nose) off the buds!
