A connoisseur’s delight since 1998
Dutch Passion began collecting cannabis genetics in the 1970’s and by the 1980’s they were a fully established, well-stocked, professional seedbank. During this time the team met all the key players in the world of cannabis breeding. One collaboration which forever changed the world of weed was back in the 1990’s when Dutch Passion founder Henk van Dalen met DJ Short with his exciting new Blueberry strain and some other excellent genetics.
DJ Short and Dutch Passion worked together on the Blueberry family; the result of the collaboration was that Dutch Passion brought the ‘blue’ family over to Europe. This included Blue Moonshine, Blueberry, Flo and Blue Velvet.
At the time this was a much-needed injection of fresh genetics into the European breeding scene. These consistently powerful ‘blue’ strains were extremely well received by the growing community. Blueberry became a legendary strain both with Dutch coffeeshops and home growers alike. These original genetics including Blueberry, Flo, Blue Velvet & Blue Moonshine remain safely in the Dutch Passion vaults where they are occasionally re-visited in new breeding projects.
Appearance & yield
Blue-purple hues dominate some phenotypes. The greener phenotypes can be encouraged to show the trademark autumnal hues with cooler bloom conditions. The generously thick resin frosting allows the buds to sparkle with some of the blue hues taking on a steel-grey appearance when seen through a milky trichome coating. The buds themselves are dense and solid. Drop one on your rolling tray and it makes a dull thud, leaving a shower of trichome dust as it lands.
Blueberry is about 80% Indica, 20% Sativa. The genetics are primarily Afghani Indica. The Sativa genetics come from a Thai Sativa and to a minor degree also from an Oaxacan (Mexican) Sativa. This unique three-way cross is the genetic foundation for the Blueberry strain and her many offspring.
Blueberry plants have a compact growth pattern with sturdy stems and very large, broad fan leaves. The internodes can be quite close together and stems can turn an inviting, luxurious blue/purple. Indoor Blueberry yields are officially rated as large, rather than XL. Remember Blueberry connoisseurs are prepared to accept a few less buds at the end of harvest in return for the special quality levels on offer.
Expect maximum yields 9-12oz in a 3ft x 3ft tent indoors. Outdoors yields of 2-5 lbs+ per plant are possible in favorable conditions. Auto Blueberry, when grown in DWC with LED can yield 10oz+ per plant in experienced hands.
Aroma and flavor
Blueberry is one of the fruitiest marijuana seed varieties you have ever tasted, flavor is one of the main reasons for so many repeat growers. Terpene analysis shows the 5 dominant terpenes to be (in order of abundance) terpinolene, caryophyllene, ocimene, myrcene and limonene.

- Blueberry isn’t the easiest feminized seed choice for less experienced growers and can be a fussy feeder. She tends to suit the more experienced grower.
- However, the autoflower seed version, Auto Blueberry, is far more robust and grows with little attention.
- Those with the experience to bring the best out of the photoperiod feminized seed version will be repaid in full with a beautiful harvest of perhaps their most delicious, fruitiest buds yet.
- We recommend that growers ensure their grow-room conditions are as stable as possible. Blueberry thrives in a steady growing environment free from temperature/humidity spikes.
- The indoor climate, nutrients, grow-medium, airflow and lighting need to be optimized for her to feel at home and reach her full genetic potential. Blueberry is one of those connoisseur strains where upfront preparation really does reward the experienced grower.

A rich heritage of cannabis cup winning seeds
Genetics as good as Blueberry’s are an irresistible temptation to professional geneticists. The Dutch Passion team have used Blueberry in several crosses over the years. Numerous other breeders and seed banks have also used Blueberry genetics. To help independent breeders continue the Blueberry genetic legacy, Blueberry regular seeds remain in the collection - allowing selection of elite male and female specimens.
Dutch Passion themselves have three high-THC Blueberry-hybrids strains available. All are autoflower seed varieties. They grow from seed to harvest in around 9-11 weeks indoors under 18-20 hours of light per day. Autoflower strains bloom ‘automatically’ often after 4-5 weeks without any reduction in light hours (known as the ‘photoperiod’).
Many experienced autoflower seed growers routinely achieve 3-5oz dry harvests per plant indoors. Serious growers with hydro, coco, dripper, DWC and similar ‘advanced’ grow methods routinely haul 8-12oz+ dry harvests from each autoflower plant.
Auto Blueberry
Auto Blueberry uses genes from our prized mother plant and presents them in their autoflowering version. She packs all the same great flavor as the original and the same inimitably smooth, irresistibly enjoyable and irrepressibly powerful high. The fast bloom time, typically 9-10 weeks but occasionally 8 weeks means that plant sizes (especially in soil/compost) tend to be small/medium unless you are a seasoned auto pro. Those growing in deep water culture (and similarly effective systems) with LED can expect 10oz+ dry harvests of Grade-A buds per plant. Auto Blackberry Kush
Auto Blackberry Kush is another direct Blueberry descendant, this time crossed with a beautiful dark Blackberry hash plant and presented in autoflower seed format. This allows all the great flavours you would expect, plus a few more dark fruit, blackberry and cherry notes to make these dark cherry/purple-colored buds some of the most iconic we have seen.
As with Auto Blueberry, you can expect harvests around 9-10 weeks (occasionally longer) after autoflower seed germination under a continuous daily light cycle with 18-20 hours of light.

Blue Auto Mazar
Mazar is the multi-cannabis cup winning Afghani stinker with her hard-hitting knockout punch and heavy yields. Blue Auto Mazar is the professional genetic fusion of the original Mazar and Blueberry in autoflower seed format. She grows easily with little maintenance. Like all autos she thrives in coco, hydro or soil/compost. Aerated grow containers such as air pots or felt sacks are always recommended.
Blue Auto Mazar comes with perhaps a less fruity bouquet than Auto Blueberry or Auto Blackberry Kush. Expect some sour, earthy notes of the Afghan/Skunk Mazar heritage. Blue Auto Mazar takes around 10-11 weeks to grow from autoflower seed to harvest indoors (outdoors, allow an extra 2-3 weeks approx.)
Outdoors, these auto strains are ready to harvest typically around 3 months after autoflower seed germination and usually stay around/under 4ft tall. In many areas of the USA, 2-3 successive outdoor auto crops are possible each season with typical outdoor yields ranging from 1-10oz per plant dependent on conditions. All outdoor autos benefit from an indoor start for a couple of weeks (or more if you’re inclined) under 20-24 hours of daily light. All autoflowers also thrive in good greenhouse/polytunnel conditions.
